A house wife’s hope of making her children even after having two boys and one girl has turned to a nightmare of a strange delivery- three buckets of strange chemicals after seven years.
Mrs Idowu Olotu had vowed to have two boys and two girls but her fouth pregnancy turn out a mystery.
Last week Tuesday, January 12, 2010, Mrs. Idowu Olotu delivered three buckets of brown fluid after seven years pregnancy.
She had been whisked to a traditional medicine practitioner when information went to friends and neighbours that she was attempting suicide as she could no longer hold the pain her condition was causing her entire family who had tried in vain to relieve her of the agonising pregnancy.
“About eight months ago, I was listening to the radio when someone mentioned the efficacy of Dr. Shehu Dauda Usani Yakafi, a traditional medicine practitioner’s treatment during a radio call.. She called the radio station and got the doctor’s telephone number.
She quickly booked an appointment and went over to the man’s clinic at Yakafi Traditional Medicine, Cure and Maternity Home, 59/55 Matairu Ali Street, Ijegun, Lagos.
Her delivery had taken a gradual process with the saving grace coming when she was introduced to the traditional medicine practitioner.
The traditional doctor diagnosed Mrs Olotu’s plight as the handiwork of evil doers who had gone underground to spell the mum of three through eating during her sleep many years ago.
“Somebody close to her did it to her. She ate in her dream and got the strange elememt in her body. She was very sick. We made her well spiritually before starting the medication for her treatment. We made the evil thing she ate to come out through a superior force”, said
The traditional doctor claimed he was in constant contact with leaves and stems in the bush which always give command of their usage to heal and redeem people from strange ailments.
“When I go to the forest, I tell the ‘beings’ about my mission and the herbs I see and touch talk to me. I take the herbs home and prepare the drugs I give to my patients, he explained in his native language to the reporter.
Emnnews.com discovered that the same traditional doctor delivered a young lady of a strange tortoise alongside a baby girl last December and had claimed the same strange delivery was the the handiwork of evil people.
Already, the native doctor has six apprentices with three of his children enrolling as apprentices.
Share Mrs Idowu Olotu’s agonising story.
When Mrs. Idowu Olotu, a businesswoman, observed what she thought were the usual, normal signs of pregnancy she was elated and worried at the same time.
Already a mother of three- two boys and a girl- she had always wished to balance the number of her children. She is one of those who think an only girl or boy in a family would be lonely and miserable for her well being and her future as a mother.
*Medical Attention.
Her worry stemmed from the sudden, unusual bulging of her stomach. She and her husband, Titus decided to seek medical advice.
Like in a normal pregnancy, her monthly period ceased and she began having early morning sickness, fatigue, and loss of appetite for food.
She even registered for antenatal care but the result of her pregnancy test shocked her and the medical team of officers handling her case.
Series of scan tests in different general hospitals in Lagos didn’t show the presence of any foetus. But her stomach strangely kept enlarging and bulging as though she was laden with quadruplets or even more babies.
*Going spiritual
When her condition seemed to defy medical diagnosis, the Olotus decided to go spiritual: “We began going from one church to another, covering nearly all spiritual Churches in Lagos metropolis.
Most times, I was told to bring my domestic wrapper cloths for prayers and prayer rituals but all to no avail.
”I lost all my expensive wrappers and blouses. Yet, no impact of prayer was felt”, Mrs. Olotu said.
*Worsening condition
From 2003 until recently, she shuttled between hospitals and churches but only to realise her stomach continued to be enlarged.
It got to a point that she couldn’t move, get up or lie down without being assisted.
Domestic functions became impossible as people accompanied her to the toilet, bathroom and even the kitchen to prepare meals for her family.
“For some years, I just sat almost in one place and did nothing. I couldn’t sleep. I only took solace in listening to radio. It came to a stage I could identify all nation’s radio stations, their DJs and programme presenters.
When everybody go on their daily routine, I’m always alone in the house most of the time in terrible pains dying slowly but taking my faith, she said, shedding tears occasionally as she reflects on her past agony.
Dwindling fortunes!
Before her encounter with the mystery pregnancy, Mrs Olotu was an enterprising business woman, who had wholesale contract with nearly all bakeries in Igando area of Lagos Mainland.
The fair complexion and well energised housewife had no breathing space then facing pressures from hundreds of her retailing customers.
Her marked delivery van was a regular sight at many supermarkets in Lagos metropolis. She also engaged in many petty trading as a loyal supporter of her husband.
Her husband, Mr Titus Olotu, a fashion designer, had a shop at Festac Town and was quite popular as a local fashion designer.
“ We were doing well as a family well endowed and blessed with three children(two boys and one girl).
However, the resources of the Olotus took a down trend as efforts were made to bring comfort to her through medical and spiritual consultations which terribly ate deep into the family resources.
“ It was as if we were gambling as the money we had went from one medical and spiritual centre to another”, she claimed..
“The mystery pregnancy dried all our resources and ruined everything”, she continued adding that at a stage the family businesses and all means of livelihood crumbled.
“Then we began selling all our household items which include furniture, television sets, fans, refrigerators and so on. The children were stopped from pursuing their education as we couldn’t pay their school fees in the private schools they were attending” she narrated.
According to Mrs Olotu, as the family income nosedived, diminished and eventually dried up, the family moved from their three-bedroom apartment to a two-room enclave at 4, Akodu Ibrahim Street, Akesan, Igando, Lagos.
Their new accommodation is owned by their first landlord whom Mrs. Olotu described as a good person, God-fearing and very considerate man.
Narrating her ordeal to Nigeria’s Sunday Sun, she thanked her landlord whom she claimed owned the first house they moved from claiming he was God sent as he waved the rent at a stage showing concern for the children who had stopped schooling.
“His concern and consideration was for our children because they stopped schooling” she narrated, continuing:” When my husband went to pay him one month rent, he refused to collect it. He said he was more concerned with the children going to school. He told us to use the money to pay for the children’s school fees. The man is not like the typical Lagos landlord.” she said.
Suicide option
Her sickness took a huge toll on her family and friends. She even traveled to her hometown in Ondo State, for traditional medical treatment. Worried by her condition, her father died.
“This sickness killed my father. He tried everything to help me, and when he didn’t see any improvement he died from the pressure and embarrassment ” she said as tears trickled down her lean face.
Realizing that people around her were suffering too much because of her sickness, she began to consider ending it all via suicide. But her brave, loving husband got an inkling of what she was contemplating and removed all the sharp objects around the house.
She even wanted to drink acid and die but it wasn’t within her reach.
“I honestly wanted to kill myself. I felt I was giving people too much trouble and that killing myself would help them to move on”, she said, twisting her lips with contrition.
Help from radio
About eight months ago, she was listening to the radio when someone mentioned the eficacy of Dr. Shehu Dauda Usani Yakafi, a traditional medicine practitioner’s treatment. She called the radio station and got the doctor’s telephone number. She quickly booked an appointment and went over to the man’s clinic at Yakafi Traditional Medicine, Cure and Maternity Home, 59/55 Matairu Ali Street, Ijegun, Lagos.
Unusual doctor.
On the appointed day, the doctor observed that Mrs. Idowu and her husband had difficulty in paying the clinic’s N500 registration and card fee, he breached the hospital’s procedure and registered her free of charge.
He was even paying regular visit to the woman’s house to treat her every day. For about eight months, the doctor administered traditional medicine derived from herbs on her.
Strange delivery
Last week Tuesday, January 12, 2010, Mrs. Idowu Olotu delivered three buckets of thick brown fluid. Speaking through an interpreter, the barely literate traditional medicine practitioner told Sunday Sun that the case was more of spiritual nature than medical.
“Somebody close to her did it to her. She ate in her dream and got it. She was very sick. We made her well spiritually before starting the treatment proper. We made the evil thing she ate to come out first through a superior force” he said .
And all these while, the doctor didn’t demand for a kobo. He instead spent and lavished his money, giving her food, drugs, and praying for her.
Hear him: “I don’t normally collect money until after treatment. When you register, we treat you until you are well. Mrs. Idowu’s case is not normal. Even now that she’s okay, we can’t ask her to pay. She doesn’t have money and she had gone though so much pains.
So, why bother her? God says we should save life first. That’s what I have done.”
Doctor of a kind
The Igboora, Oyo State of Nigeria born tradtional medicine practitioner has no formal Western education and training. He claims herbs talk to him. “When I go to the forest, I tell the beings I meet my mission and the herbs I see and touch talk to me. I take the herbs home and prepare the drugs I give to my patients.
“I have also learned under some masters at Benin Republic, Kogi state of Nigeria and got knowledge from other sources.so on. I use traditional method to treat and cure people. Prayer helps also. I call on both Prophet Mohammed and Jesus Christ. Both are prophets of God. Ignorance make people to discriminate.
Reports claimed that the clinic of the 41-year-old trado-medicine practitioner is always teeming with strange cases of mental illness, pregnancy and so on.
