Fame and fortune come with high prices as we all live in a world where many crave for stardom and greatness without the thought for all the ‘price’ attachments; blackmail, witch- hunt, scandals, loss of freedom and many more.
Many handle the intricacies of fame with candour while many loose control in the process, thereby finding themselves eventually on the other side of glitz and glamour.
Of course, the mere fact that we all live in a world of fantasy create an atmosphere for both sides of the coin with joy moving alongside with moments of sadness.
For Foluke Daramola, the lady who stepped into the vulnerable world of film making with nobility , she had seen it all; glitz and glare and many more positive and negative attachment to the world of career success .
As a star actress of International standing and immesurable value, her adventure on the field of acting has made her to rob shoulders with eminent personalities as well as doting herself for an object of scrutiny by the press and the public alike.
While launching her new Yoruba Film, “Wakati Eda film last August in Lagos, the venue of the launching tells it all as the calibre of men and women that blitzed the occasion would not have made Foluke to settle for a less iconic venue. She launched the film in the top star hotel, ‘The Sheraton’ . Guest were selected and the calibre of attendees was itself a show of class and high taste, according to eye witnesses account.
Among the role call of invitees were State first ladies and many other state strong ambassadors. Also gracing the occasion were top stars in the industry calling to register their names at the memorable occasion.
Her adventure, entering into the Nigeria’s Film Industry with humility and respect, nobility, and modesty many years ago has paid off for her having won many hearts in her chosen career. She is also close to the heart of close friends while also remaining an idol to many fans across the world. We conclude without fear or favour that Foluke Daramola is well accomplished in her chosen career.
‘Wakati Eda’, her new film cost her almost N5million Naira to produce and the efforts put in the film also cost as much as she committed financially for the projest.
Foluke had enjoyed a considerable marital life and has been blessed with two beautiful children even though as part of the price for fame she had attained, the marriage has collapsed as she walked out of it after four years.
Her career has blossomed continuously and her fame had never waned for a moment.
Even though she had been very proud of an eventful life, her life has never been without some hi-cups just as her marriage has indicated.
Hers has been a mix-grill of sadness and joy; the two sides of life which she had handled with maturity and candour.
Her unique ability to handle crisis and managed it well came sometimes when an admirer had to temptingly touch the most endowed part of her body to know if her God-given asset was real or a make up aimed at fooling her fans.
Of course, not because the guy wanted to be rude or patronising; only that his obsession for Foluke made him to be curious taking him to the extreme of committing ‘touchery’ (excuse my choice of word) just to establish the movie star he was crazy about was not artificially motivated afterwards- that her asset was not silly-coated or silly shaped (remember silicon).
Responding to questions recently on the craziest thing a fan has ever done to her, Foluke responded: ”Touching my boobs. He felt he had to find out whether they are real or not.
Well I also tried to slap him but he ran away”, still retaining her composure in the face of such aggravation.
Her spontaneous reaction to the guy presented her as a no –nonsense actress; that her dignity and pride would never be compromised.
Responding recently to questions about sexual harassment in the Nigeria’s film Industry, she was shuttle about her response:”Sexual harassment is everywhere. It is not exclusive to the movie industry. As far as I am concerned, if you don’t want to be harassed, you won’t be”,
The star who is a graduate of International Public Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in Oshun State of Nigeria continued:
“I have said it before that when I started showbiz, it came almost with stardom, but not with money. And by the time I started home videos, I had paid my dues. Once you see that you are not getting jobs, you go home.
“You need not to hang around there as if your whole life depends on it. You don’t have to present yourself as being desperate; otherwise people will take you for an unusual ride. You need to carry yourself with dignity. That doesn’t mean you cannot have emotional attachment to people in the industry. Your decision to date somebody is not the same thing as being sexually harassed. People should know that it is not every role they can play”
Her response is an indication that she is highly principled and also knows her mettle. She knows where to draw the line when it comes to the cat and mouse game of ladies and gentlemen. Maybe she should serve as advisers to those who claim to have been harassed to tell them devil find work for only an idle hand.
She is currently attaining a higher height in her career, fall-out of her hard work and held principle as a responsible ambassador within the Nollywood family house.
She is currently bracing herself up for another feat; launching her new film in London
London is currently criss-crossing with phone calls in preparation for the launching of “WAKATI EDA” her new creation.
Wakati Eda is billed to be premiered at the Eclipse Restaurant, Bar and Dance Section, 57-59, Camberwell Rd, London on the Sunday, January 17.
The event, which is expected to open with a special red carpet reception at 7pm is expected to parade notable celebrities from Nigeria and beyond, while the screening will start by 8pm. There will also be an after party from 10pm, which will last until midnight.
The premiere will also feature performances from Nigerian entertainers such as Solek and Atiba, who have been contracted to man the bandstand during the occasion.
Foluke is confident about the success of the London launching leaning on the Nigerian version of the film premiere which recorded a huge success.
“Though the Lagos version was successful, the London premiere would be bigger based on the level of preparation put in place”, said confident Foluke. We wish her further success in all her visions and future adventures.
Meet Foluke Daramola on Sunday at De Eclipse Restaurant, Camberwell Road, London at 7pm.
